The BIG Induna Hazyview MTB Classic 2011

The date is set for the biggest Induna MTB race ever. 28 May 2011 will see old and new mountain bikers and their families flocking to Hazyview to claim what might be the best day/weekend that 2011 has to offer!!!

After a 2010 mountain bike calendar without the Big Induna the organizers are viguarlasly going to try and claim this race as the best one day race in South Africa. “I am very excited about the date! I hope and pray that nothing will stand in the way of anybody that wants to join us in living this day to the fullest” says Jaco Lubbe Event Director. He goes on by mentioning reasons why this date is special.- It is just before the onslaught of winter. One of the last races before most mountain bikers starts their training hibernation.- It’s just after Sani-2l so racers will be fit and hungry for racing.

It’s in between school holidays, which is perfect for a midterm family weekend break-away.- It’s after the heavy raining season, with mud being your bikes components worst enemy. What is it that makes this race so special- The most fun and beautiful riding terrain next to rivers and streams, underneath indigenous forest and over bridges, you’ll come across.- The famous and sought after Induna Mountain riding shirt will be on offer. How will it look?- The adventure centre and hospitality offers great entertainment for the whole family while you can race. If the kids are happy, mom and dad are happy.- The warm lowveld weather!!!

If you really want to know, you HAVE to book 28 May 2011, load your mountain bike and come and experience for yourself

Kayaking first assent Water hout boom

First Ascend: Waterhoutboom River

Why do men want to boldly go where no man has gone before?

The Induna Adventure boys tried to answer this question with first ascend down the Waterhoutboom River, half way between Hazyview and Graskop, with white water kayaks.
Andre v.d. Burgh and Jaco Lubbe took the morning off at Induna for an anticipated 3 hours paddle on a 10km stretch (as the crow fly) down the unknown waterhoutboom river. Their 3 hours planned trip, turned out to be a 9 hour adventure. They met the (worried) back-up crew at the take out with aching bodies, scratched and scared; but with the most rewarding smiles on earth. Even they were not sure if they were smiling, because they were happy to see the back-up, or just stocked of the amazing experience, maybe both?

Apparently the river thawed everything at them, endless snaking sections in the catchment areas that was partially blogged and sometimes totally blogged with over hanging trees and strainers. They clawed and climbed through these sections, waiting for the river to turn the cards and he did. 2-3m drops and long rock slides all over the show with long rolling rocky drops under the canopy of the most amazing indigenous bush.

The high was a 4m gap slotting the river with water pouring from either side. The safest line was to ride a lateral wave to the right trying to avoid the centre witch drops into some where you can’t really see; then hold on and hope to land upright in the pool ready for the next rapid around the corner

So why did they go there?

“It makes me feel alive. It’s the most fun I had in a long time” Said Jaco Lubbe

The Big Induna Hazyview MTB Classic

Induna Adventures is calling all mountain bikers for a life changing experience!!

Place: Induna Adventures
Date: 28 May 2011

How much fun can you have on a mountain bike?
The answer will be found at the 2011 Big Induna MTB challenge in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.
Team Induna is working around the clock to perfect rider & spectator satisfaction by adding more value to the venue and dishing up a route with a difference.

This is your opportunity to ride in a unique and spectacular environment. Forget endless fire road and jeep track climbs where road bike endurance more than MTB skill prevail, the Induna MTB Challenge serves up an entirely different menu to get your teeth into!

Characterized by hand cut trails snaking through indigenous forest, the course serves up a mind-blowing mix of short sharp climbs, rock shelves, rooty drops and fast bermed switchbacks, throw into this a few shallow water crossings and even some single tracks beaten flat by hippos and you will not regret taking up the challenge!
Making the race even more enjoyable is the Lowveld’s warm winter climate, a welcome break from the chilly highveld, camping at the venue will be comfortable and the race atmosphere festive.

This is truly a Mountain Bike race for those of us who want the full experience, a race where skill and determination can outrace and outwit just mere fitness.
An epic mountain bike race isn’t defined by distance alone, it’s a bellyful of thrills, a mud splattered grin and the satisfaction in your own personal victory!
Give your bike what it really wants, and what you deserve!

Try it once you’ll ride it twice.
